Travel Blogger Builds Website Promoting Wales and
Wants to Explore all of its Attractions
A travel blogger who spends most of the year traveling the world has put his talents to work creating a new site promoting Wales as a travel destination. Globetrotting entrepreneur Kieren Windsor has launched https://walesguidebook.com/, a quirky yet comprehensive guide to the land of his fathers that aims to uncover hidden gems among the best-known holiday spots.
So in addition to the delights of the beautiful Gower Coast
in Swansea or the Victorian elegance of Llandudno, you can find out how to hike
an alpaca in Pembrokeshire, race to a deserted church off Anglesey, or visit the
"Waterfall Country" in the Brecon Beacons. The computer whiz from
Powys studied business and marketing at Cardiff University and started his
career in marketing with the success of Wrexham's Village Bakery before moving
to the North West where he worked for bakery and confectionery businesses in
the Manchester area. He now plans to visit all the attractions in Wales.
"I provide material that people come to read directly
or through search engines, and that's how I get hundreds of thousands of
readers each month, not through social media as most people think."
Unfortunately, a few weeks after deciding to become a
full-time blogger in 2020, the pandemic caused his income to plummet. But with
no desire to return to office life, he doubled down on covering topics other
than travel.
Now that travel is back on the agenda, he traveled again
this summer, but this time to Wales, gathering gear for his new venture.
Wales Guidebook attempts to assist individuals in learning
about the top activities to do in the neighbourhood where they reside, stay, or
travel, according to Kieren.
"The website will ultimately include travel information
for all of Wales, although it is currently debuting with over 100 spots. So
whether you're in Anglesey or Gwent, Flintshire, or the Vale of Glamorgan, then
Wales Guidebook can help you plan your trip.
Kieren isn't just aimed at young travelers of the Rough
Guide genre - it also wants to appeal to families and older adventurers and
attract relevant advertising for anyone visiting Wales, whether on a day trip
or stay. This summer, I spent several months traveling around Wales, stopping
at several castles, waterfalls, and lighthouses.
The Witches' Cauldron in Pembrokeshire, the burial of Gelert
the Faithful Dog in Snowdonia, and the Tidal Islands of Anglesey are just a few
of the less well-known activities I discovered.
"Wales is my home country, so who better to start a
site about? I can make recommendations based on my experience and draw on
local knowledge through Wales' network of experts who are working on the
project with me.
The site, which launched this summer, will be monetized
through advertising and by working with tour operators and accommodation
providers across Wales to promote their services. This is my most ambitious
undertaking to date, Kieren stated. It will take years to visit all the
attractions in Wales and build the largest Welsh travel site, but I'm up for
the challenge. The best part is being able to travel in your own country as a
job, I had forgotten how beautiful Wales is. You can take it for granted when
you live here so it's great to get out and explore again and hopefully I can
encourage others to do the same.
