Which countries have restrictions and FCO warnings in place?
The Foreign Office advises against British nationals any
non-essential travel for 30 days. Plus the latest travel bans around the world.
We will update this information as the situation evolves
Since March 23, the FCO has advised British nationals
traveling abroad to return home immediately if commercial flights are still
available.
This article was first published on February 28 and is
updated daily. Last update at 5.45 p.m. (GMT), March 27
If UK nationals are generally based in the UK, the FCO
advises to return if possible:
“International travel becomes very limited as the air routes
close, land borders close and new restrictions are put in place to prevent
flights from leaving.
"We are working with the airlines to keep the routes open, and call for international action to keep the routes open to allow the British [to] go home on commercial flights. We also work 24 hours a day to help UK travelers who are already having difficulty returning to the UK. If you are a permanent resident abroad, you must stay and follow the advice of the local authorities of the country in which you live."
In cases where UK nationals cannot return home, travelers
should follow the advice of local authorities, including local measures to help
minimize exposure. This may include staying in a hotel room or accommodation
for 14 days; be transferred to quarantine facilities; be tested for coronavirus
and, if positive, in some cases, hospitalization abroad. For travelers who have
visa or visa applications that will expire soon, they should contact the
country's local immigration authorities or the UK-based embassy.
The Foreign Office (FCO) advises British nationals against any international travel except essential. This notice came into effect on March 17, for an initial period of 30 days. Border closings and other travel restrictions are increasing worldwide.
In the UK, the
government is calling on people to avoid traveling at all unless it is
essential.
“Essential trips do not include visits to second homes, campsites, caravan parks or the like, whether for isolation or vacation. People should stay in their main residence. Failure to take these steps puts additional pressure on communities and services that are already at risk."
The following countries have travel restrictions in place
