Apple is expected to host a second special event in the not
too distant future, but it's unclear when it will take place. According to a
tipster contacting AppleInsider, Apple will host the event on Tuesday, October
13, with pre-orders starting the following Friday, October 16.
The tip was sent by a person identified as working for a
carrier in the Netherlands. Although there is no concrete evidence to
corroborate the date of the event itself, the IP address of the message is within
a range controlled by an operator's corporate network.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in Europe, another operator is
preparing for the launch of the Apple product and is similarly expecting 5G
connectivity. An internal presentation for BT and EE has British Telecom CEO Marc Allera saying Apple
is set to launch a 5G iPhone in "a few days," MacRumors reports.
“We're days away from Apple's next major launch, an iPhone
5G, which will be a huge boost for 5G,” Allera told employees. "Teams from
all areas of Consumer have been preparing throughout the year to win this
launch and become Apple's number one partner in Europe."
During the presentation, Eddy Cue, senior vice president of software and internet services at Apple, appeared in a short clip, congratulating EE on becoming the first operator to offer smartphone plans to consumers, associated with several Apple services. It's unclear if Cue mentioned 5G, but given Apple's penchant for secrecy, it seems extremely unlikely.
Apple is expected to launch “iPhone 12” alongside “iPhone 12
Max” or “iPhone
12 mini,” each sporting a 5.4 and 6.7-inch OLED display. They will probably
be joined by the 6.1-inch iPhone ”. 12 Pro "and the 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro
Max".
Rumors indicate that the "iPhone 12" will have two
12-megapixel cameras compared to the Pro models having three, the latter also
being said to have LiDAR sensors for depth mapping, allowing for enhanced AR and
photography functionality.
All models are expected to support 5G, though it's still
questionable how that will play out. While all models are likely to include
support for bands below 6 GHz, there is speculation that only specific models
will support the high-speed mmWave element.
