A Faster Schengen Visa application process is expected in 2023 in Belgium
Belgian Ambassador to Kenya Peter Maddens has said the visa application process will not be as chaotic in 2023, suggesting the country will process Schengen visa applications faster as embassies clear the backlog. This is according to a report in Schengen Visa.
During a visit to Kenya's capital, Nairobi, Ambassador
Maddens said a "storm" had been created after borders reopened for
travelers due to visa and passport issues, and stressed that other countries
also faced similar challenges.
Separately, Ambassador Maddens said he believes Belgium and
other countries have learned from this year's experiences, indicating that visa
application and processing will resume as usual.
Citizens of Kenya as well as citizens of all other third
countries that do not have visa liberalization agreements with member states
must obtain a visa before reaching Belgium or any other country in Europe. A
Schengen visa is a short-term visa that allows its holder to enter any member
state of the Schengen area for stays of up to 90 days within 180 days for
tourism and business purposes.
Those considering applying for a Belgian Schengen visa
should keep in mind that visa applications can be submitted no earlier than
three months before traveling. In addition, all applicants must ensure that
they include all required documents with their application.
When applying for a Belgian tourist visa, all persons are
required to submit a completed, printed, and signed Belgian visa application
form, two identical photos, and their passport, which must contain at least two
blank pages.
The applicant must also provide a copy of his or her
previous visa, cover letter; return flight itinerary, flight numbers, proof of
accommodation, proof of sufficient financial resources, and proof of civil
status.
Regarding the proof of sufficient financial means, Belgian
Immigration points out that travelers must attest to possessing 95 € per day if
they stay in a hotel in Belgium and 45 € (approximately 46.68 USD) per day if
they stay in other types of accommodation.
Once the application procedure is completed, the authorities
will start processing the visa application. In general, it takes up to 15 days
for the Belgian authorities to prove a Schengen visa. However, depending on the
situation, processing times can be extended up to 30 days.
